How to Not Lose Momentum This Holiday Season

How to Not Lose Momentum This Holiday Season

We at Houndstooth PR hope you’re getting some much needed down time this holiday season. While resting and recharging are vital to starting 2015 strong, too much of a good thing can throw off your momentum, making it incredibly counterproductive. So how can you walk that fine line of taking it easy while not hitting cruise control? Here are a few tips that work for our team:

Reflect on the previous year
Take advantage of the slower pace these next few weeks and spend a few minutes looking back on 2014. By reflecting on what aspects of your strategy worked, or didn’t, in 2014 you can get a better idea of where you’re at the top of your game, and where your team has room for improvement.

Plan ahead
What are your goals for 2015? Use some of that precious free time to sketch out a clear vision for the new year. The only way your business will continue to grow is through strategic vision. Yes, the best-laid plans may go awry, but it’s guaranteed that lack of plans will not get you where you want to go.

Use the downtime for continuing education
The holiday season is the perfect time to brush up on your skills. Read a book, take an online tutorial, register for a class – whatever it takes to stay sharp. It’s those that use their downtime wisely that can take it to the next level when Q1 rolls around.

Network
It’s holiday party season! While it can be tempting to spend these soirees huddled in the corner with people that you know – don’t! Put down the plate of goodies and mix, mingle and network. Better yet, find a local group or association for professionals in your field and attend their holiday gathering. Meet new people and establish some connections you can build on in 2015.

Make time for fun
Don’t forget to make time for fun. Pencil in something that you’re really looking forward to. It could be a professional retreat, a conference or a vacation, just make sure that it’s something you find enjoyable. It can be your personal light at the end of the tunnel on those gloomy days.

We hope these pointers help you prepare for a successful new year. Now go make a cup of your favorite holiday drink, put your feet up and enjoy some time reflecting and planning. You deserve it!

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
